Hey Tyler!
Happy almost-Fourth. This is the big one — America turns 250 this weekend, and East Texas is going all out for it.
The headline for us: Tyler's long-running fireworks festival is moving to a brand-new home this year, and it's still free. We've also got a downtown 5K, a stack of live music, farmers markets, comedy, and enough small-town parades and picnics to keep you busy from Thursday straight through the holiday.
We've rounded up every fireworks show, cookout, and family thing we could find so you can plan your weekend without the guesswork.
Let's get into it.

🎆 Tyler's Fourth of July fireworks festival has a new home
For the first time, Tyler's long-running fireworks celebration is moving from Lindsey Park to The Park of East Texas (204 Patton Lane) — the same grounds that host the East Texas State Fair and the Red Dirt BBQ & Music Festival. It runs Saturday, July 4 from 5 to 10 p.m., and it's still free and open to everyone. In honor of America's 250th birthday, expect expanded entertainment: food trucks, local vendors, family activities, a live band, a flyover, and a fireworks finale to close out the night. Read more
🎶 Neal McCoy lines up three '90s country legends for his big benefit
Longview's Neal McCoy has booked The Frontmen — Richie McDonald (Lonestar), Larry Stewart (Restless Heart) and Tim Rushlow (Little Texas) — for his 30-plus-year benefit concert on Sept. 26 at LeTourneau's Belcher Center. The three have sold more than 30 million records between them. The show raises money for the East Texas Angel Network, which helps cover living and travel costs for families of East Texas kids facing severe or terminal illness. Tickets went on sale June 25 and are moving fast. Read more
🤖Tyler's Sidewalk Robots Are Having a Rough Week
If you've driven around town lately, you've probably spotted Dax — one of the little robots rolling along Tyler's sidewalks to survey them for ADA accessibility. Lately, though, Dax has been having a moment. Photos and videos making the rounds on social media show one missing a tread, and another rolling into traffic while cars hit the brakes to let it cross. The city says the operator steering that particular bot didn't follow standard procedure and they're working to correct it — Dax is run by a third-party contractor, with a human taking the controls whenever one needs to cross a street (turns out crosswalks need accessibility data, too). As for the worn-out treads? The company says the robots cover a lot of miles, and the rougher the sidewalk, the harder it is on poor Dax. Read more
🔧 Field Fastener is investing nearly $3 million in Tyler
Field Fastener is putting $2.875 million into renovating and modernizing about 16,000 square feet of its Tyler "Center of Excellence" on County Road 2121. The project keeps 26 existing jobs here and adds 10 new full-time positions averaging around $75,000 a year. The Tyler Economic Development Council is calling it a strong vote of confidence in Smith County's growing manufacturing and logistics base. Read more
🎓 UT Tyler offers buyouts to about a quarter of its employees
The University of Texas at Tyler has offered a voluntary separation incentive — essentially a buyout — to roughly a quarter of its workforce. The university says the program is meant to keep it "affordable and prepared for the future," and that it doesn't expect any impact on course offerings or student services. It's a notable move for a campus that's posted record enrollment in recent years. Read more

🇺🇸 Real Estate Spotlight: Two Lakes. Two Lifestyles. One Incredible Fourth of July.
If there's one weekend that reminds us why people dream about owning waterfront property in East Texas, it's the Fourth of July.
The boats are on the water before lunch. Families spend the afternoon swimming, tubing, and grilling. As the sun goes down, neighbors gather along the shoreline to watch fireworks reflect across the water. It's one of those weekends that creates the memories people talk about for years.
Here in East Texas, that dream usually comes down to one question:
Lake Tyler or Lake Palestine?
Both offer beautiful waterfront living, but they appeal to very different lifestyles.
Lake Tyler: Peaceful, Convenient, and Close to Town
If you want to enjoy the lake without feeling like you're leaving Tyler, Lake Tyler is hard to beat.
It's smaller, quieter, and generally offers calmer water. That makes it a favorite for fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and relaxing weekends. Many homeowners love that they can leave work, be at the lake in minutes, and still enjoy dinner on the back porch overlooking the water.
Because of its proximity to Tyler and more limited waterfront inventory, Lake Tyler homes are often in high demand.
Lake Tyler is ideal for buyers looking for:
A primary residence on the water
Easy access to Tyler shopping, restaurants, and healthcare
A quieter lake experience
Excellent fishing and peaceful evenings
Lake Palestine: Bigger Water. Bigger Adventures.
If Lake Tyler feels like a quiet getaway, Lake Palestine feels like a vacation destination.
With nearly 26,000 acres of water and over 130 miles of shoreline, there's room to spread out. Boating, wake surfing, jet skiing, waterfront restaurants, and long sunset cruises are all part of everyday life here.
Neighborhoods stretch across Bullard, Flint, Chandler, Coffee City, and beyond, offering everything from weekend cabins to luxury waterfront estates with custom boathouses and deep-water access.
Lake Palestine is perfect for buyers looking for:
More room to boat and explore
Luxury waterfront homes
Weekend retreats or second homes
Entertaining family and friends on the water
Which Lake Is Right for You?
The answer depends less on your budget and more on how you picture spending your weekends.
If your perfect Saturday is coffee on the dock, casting a fishing line, and enjoying a quiet sunset, Lake Tyler may feel like home.
If it's loading up the boat, spending all day on the water, pulling kids on tubes, and ending the evening watching fireworks from the lake, Lake Palestine is tough to beat.
Neither is better. They're simply different, and that's what makes East Texas so special.
This Fourth of July...
While thousands of East Texans head to the lakes to celebrate Independence Day, many will quietly find themselves imagining what it would be like if they didn't have to pack up and go home.
Owning waterfront property isn't just about buying a house. It's about changing where memories are made.
Whether your dream is a peaceful cove on Lake Tyler or open water on Lake Palestine, there's never a bad time to start exploring what's available.
Have a safe Fourth of July, enjoy time with the people who matter most, and if lake life has been calling your name, I'd be happy to help you find the right shoreline to call home. 🇺🇸
