Hey Tyler!

School's out, summer's here, and the calendar is absolutely loaded. This weekend alone you've got live music at The Grove, comedy at Rose City, a car show, a "Mostly Mozart" concert, and a hands-on Fiddle Zoo where the kids can actually pick up a cello and give it a go.

If you've got little ones home for the summer, there's good news on two fronts: plenty of family-friendly fun to fill the days, and the East Texas Food Bank is kicking off its free summer meal program Tuesday to make sure no kid goes hungry while school's out. Oh — and our UT Tyler Patriots are headed back to the College World Series, so there's something to cheer for too.

🍎 East Texas Food Bank launches its summer meal program for kids With school out, the East Texas Food Bank is making sure local kids still get fed. Its free Summer Food Program kicks off Tuesday, June 2, with a celebration at the Glass Recreation Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — think face painting, games, and free Kona Ice, plus a free meal for every kid. The food bank notes that 1 in 4 East Texas children are food insecure, and they're aiming to serve more than 100,000 meals this summer. Meals are free for anyone 18 and under, no registration required. Read more

UT Tyler heads back to the College World Series The Patriots are Cary-bound again. UT Tyler punched its ticket to a second straight NCAA Division II College World Series with an 8–5 win over top-ranked Colorado Mesa, taking the deciding game of the super regional on the road. The pitching staff stranded 14 Mavericks runners to seal it. Coach Brent Porche says the mindset's different this time around: getting there the first time is a thrill, but now they know what it takes. The Pats open against Central Missouri on Friday, May 29, at 12:30 p.m. Read more

🎻 New Texas Sinfonia invites families to a hands-on "Fiddle Zoo" Got little ones curious about music? New Texas Sinfonia is hosting "Fiddle Zoo for Kids," an instrument "petting zoo" where children can see, hear, and actually try out violins, cellos, flutes, and bassoons. There's music-themed games, orchestra story time, and live performances too. It runs Saturday morning at First Presbyterian, with a "Mostly Mozart" concert following in the afternoon. Read more

💪 East Texans complete the "Murph" to honor fallen service members About 75 Camp Gladiator participants gathered at Green Acres Sports Complex on Memorial Day for the Murph Challenge — a grueling workout (a mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and another mile) named for Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2005. All fitness levels took part, with some doing the full Murph, others a half, and families splitting it up together. As organizer Roy Davis put it, it's not about winning — it's about doing something hard, together, and remembering what the day is really about. Read more

The Tyler, TX Real Estate Market: What Buyers and Sellers Need to Know Right Now

The Tyler, TX real estate market is finding its footing in spring 2026 and if you're thinking about buying or selling in East Texas, the timing may be better than you think.

Prices Are Stable and Still Affordable

The median sold price in Tyler sits around $325,000, with price per square foot up roughly 12.6% year over year. That's steady growth, not a bubble. With the Texas statewide median around $333,800, Tyler remains more affordable than most major metros which is exactly why the city keeps attracting buyers relocating from Dallas and beyond.

Inventory Is Up — Buyers Have Options

Smith County's active listing count has expanded significantly, with roughly 1,900 to 2,600 active listings and months-of-supply creeping up to about 5.3 months. That puts Tyler squarely in balanced market territory. Inspection requests, repair credits, and closing-cost help are back on the table. Buyers have breathing room they haven't had in years.

Sellers: Price It Right From the Start

Well-priced homes in desirable Tyler neighborhoods South Tyler, Hollytree, Cascades are still moving at a solid pace. Overpriced listings are sitting. Pricing strategy is the whole game right now.

The Bottom Line

Tyler's long-term outlook remains strong, backed by population growth, healthcare and education employment, and steady relocation demand. East Texas is a smart place to plant roots.
