We're on the other side of a big holiday weekend — the city's Fourth of July festival found a brand-new home, and the good-news stories from around East Texas are still rolling in.

This week's calendar is stacked, too: trivia nights all over town, live music just about every evening, an expert-level Dungeons & Dragons one-shot at the library, and movies under the stars at Bergfeld. Something for pretty much everyone.

🎆 Tyler's Fourth of July festival celebrates America's 250th in a new home
The city's long-running Fireworks Festival made its debut at The Park of East Texas this year, trading its longtime Lindsey Park home for more room to grow. The free evening ran 5 to 10 p.m. with food and artisan vendors, kids' activities, live music, a Texas V-Tails flyover, and a fireworks finale. "We are honored to get to be here at Park of East Texas and celebrate Fourth of July in a brand-new location," Mayor Stuart Hene said, adding he hopes the partnership continues for years to come.

🚗 Patriotic car show at a Tyler restaurant raises money for wounded veterans
The Raceway Muscle Car Club teamed up with Bubba's 33 for an Independence Day Bash featuring a military flyover, guest Medal of Honor recipients, live music, and a display of historic military vehicles. Proceeds benefited Homes For Our Troops, a nonprofit that builds and donates custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 veterans.

💪 Coach injured at a Whitehouse track meet heads home after two months
Blake Crutsinger — the Ponder ISD assistant coach hit in the head by a shot put during a regional track meet at Whitehouse High School back in May — is finally home after roughly two months in the hospital. The injury caused a skull fracture and severe brain swelling, and doctors had to remove part of his skull. His recovery has stunned his family and drawn an outpouring of support across East and North Texas. When he turned the corner onto his street, neighbors were waiting in the yard to welcome him home. He still has outpatient rehab ahead, including relearning to speak.

⛈️ Severe storms bring hail, flooding, and road closures to Smith County
Tuesday's storms rolled through with hail, heavy rain, and flooding across Smith County. Lindale police closed the intersection of Highway 16 and College Street due to high water, and viewers sent in photos and video of the storm moving over Tyler and Lindale. If you took any hail damage, now's the time to document it for insurance.

🏗️ Tyler planning commission denies permit for proposed downtown data center
The city's Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-2 Tuesday to deny a special use permit for a proposed Bitcoin mining data center on West Erwin Street near downtown, following a staff recommendation to reject it. City planning director Kyle Kingma said the proposal was inconsistent with the Tyler Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan. Residents packed City Hall to raise concerns about water use, noise, and neighborhood impact. Because data centers don't fall under a specific zoning category in Tyler, the applicant may appeal.
